The Bristol Superfreighter was developed in 1952 as an evolution of the Bristol Freighter to meet the requirements of car ferry services, transporting cars and passengers across the English Channel. In 1963, Silver City Airways merged with other operators to form British United Air Ferries, which continued to use the Superfreighter. Cross Channel car ferry services ended in the late 1960s when cheaper sea ferry services became more popular.
This model is a reissue of Airfix's classic kit from 1959 and is part of their Vintage Classics range. The kit features finely engraved panel lines and realistic cockpits. The kit includes one decal option:
Option A: Bristol Superfreighter Mk.32, British United Air Ferries, Lydd Airport, Kent, England, 1967.
The model also offers functional details such as an opening nose section with a ramp, allowing for display of the cargo hold. The box artwork is designed by Roy Cross, renowned for his iconic Airfix artwork from the 1960s.
