Description

Article no.: A18.A09011

The Consolidated B-24D Liberator was the second of America's great four-engine heavy bombers during World War II. Developed after the Army Air Corps requested the production of B-17 Flying Fortresses, Consolidated proposed designing and producing their own bomber, which led to the XB-24 prototype's first flight on December 29, 1939. With its distinctive shoulder-mounted wings, narrow fuselage, and twin-boom tail, the B-24D had a unique appearance compared to the B-17. Introduced into service in 1941, the B-24D played a crucial role in the Allied war effort across various theaters.
