Tamiya 35393 - German Schwimmwagen Typ 166 – Wide Wheel Version

Build the iconic amphibious vehicle Volkswagen Schwimmwagen Typ 166, widely used by German forces during World War II. Based on the Volkswagen platform, the Typ 166 could operate on both land and water thanks to its folding propeller and sealed hull.

This “Wide Wheel Version” represents later wartime production with wider tyres, improving mobility in mud and snow. Tamiya provides crisp molding, realistic undercarriage detail, separate propeller assembly, and authentic decals—ideal for Eastern or Western Front dioramas.

For an accurate finish, use Tamiya acrylics: XF-60 Dark Yellow as the base, with camouflage patches in XF-64 Red Brown and XF-58 Olive Green. Interior and seats are painted with XF-49 Khaki, while tyres and rubber parts use XF-85 Rubber Black. Light weathering with XF-52 Flat Earth and dry-brushing in XF-57 Buff adds realistic dust and mud effects.
